How Solar Works

Solar panel installations work by converting sunlight into clean energy for your home.

Did You Know?

Solar panel installations are becoming a fixture in modern architecture. In the past, homeowners were wary of solar panel installations because they seemed awkward and cumbersome. Today, solar panel installations are sleek and versatile and can be installed to follow the natural contours of your home.

Drawing on the free and abundant energy of the sun, solar panel installations generate reliable power by transforming sunlight into electricity.

This electricity is created by solar cells that make up solar panels. When sunlight hits the panels, solar cells transform it into electricity known as "direct" or "DC" current. This DC current travels back into your home where it is converted into "alternating" or "AC" current, the type of electricity used to power appliances and utilities.

If AC current is not used immediately it is exported to the utility grid, and your meter will spin backwards and you will be compensated. When the sun goes down, the electricity generated by the utility will be drawn from the grid to power your home. When the sun rises, the cycle starts again.
