SANYO

Fact

In 1975 SANYO launched amorphous silicon solar cell development. Over the years, the company has surpassed many milestones, including the production of more than 100 million HIT solar cells, evidence of our commitment to alternate energy.

History of Innovation

When it comes to alternate energy, SANYO is more than the leading manufacturer, it is a pioneer. In 1963, SANYO developed the CADNICA® Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd) battery, marking the beginning of the era of cordless electric products. SANYO was also a pioneer in bringing other rechargeables to the market including Lithium Ion, Lithium Polymer and Nickel Metal Hydride. SANYO developed amorphous silicon solar batteries in 1979 marking a major breakthrough in harnessing the power of the sun and solar energy. Since the first battery pack engineered in 1987, SANYO has produced more than 4 billion battery packs over past 20 years.
