SANYO Consumer Products Group Launches New Product Category: ‘eneloop’ Rechargeable Batteries and ‘eneloop universe’ Products

‘eneloop’ Batteries Complement Consumer Electronics Products Group

March 22, 2009

Chatsworth, CA, March 22, 2009 – SANYO Fisher Company, a division of SANYO North America Corporation, will assume the sales and marketing responsibility for SANYO-brand retail batteries sold in North America effective April 1, 2009. Retail batteries were previously marketed by SANYO Energy (USA) Corporation. As part of this business transition, SANYO will exhibit its line of ‘eneloop’ rechargeable batteries and new ‘eneloop universe’ products at the International Home and Housewares Show, March 22-24 in Chicago.

The 'eneloop' was developed on the concept of "looping energy". Since first releasing the revolutionary 'eneloop', a AA-sized Nickel-metal hydride rechargeable battery in November 2005, SANYO has designed and developed various battery cells, such as AAA-size 'eneloop' or the recently announced C- and D-size 'eneloop' and 'universal charger' in response to popular demand. With these 'eneloop' battery solutions, SANYO has proposed creating a new "lifestyle that values reusing and recycling”. The 'eneloop' battery combines the benefits of dry cell batteries by coming pre-charged with the economic and environmental benefits of rechargeable batteries, rechargeable up to 1,000 times. Unlike many other rechargeable batteries that rapidly lose their charge over time, eneloop batteries retain 85% of their charge after one year of non-use.

“eneloop rechargeable batteries are a perfect fit for SANYO Fisher Company,” said Richard Miller, VP and General Manager, Consumer Products Group. “We already supply a wide range of products to the leading retailers and wholesalers in the home appliance and consumer electronics industries. As the world’s largest manufacturer of rechargeable batteries, this addition certainly enhances our portfolio of consumer products and fits very well with our goal to be a leading provider of environment- and energy-related products,” Miller added.

In addition to displaying eneloop rechargeable batteries and chargers, SANYO will be exhibiting a variety of the newest ‘eneloop universe’ products. SANYO’s ‘eneloop universe’ is based on the company’s ‘Think GAIA’ vision, proposing an existence compatible with enriched life and the environment, through Global Energy Solutions and Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability.

‘eneloop bike’ (Hybrid Electric Bicycle)
The SANYO ‘eneloop bicycle’ features eneloop technology, providing a cruising range of 60 miles in the automatic mode with a 25.2V self-charging battery. The motor on the front wheel functions as a generator and stores electric power when going downhill and braking. With its two-wheel drive system, the rear wheel is pedal-powered and the front wheel is motor-assisted, the eneloop bike provides a safe and stable ride. “Power-up Mode” offers a 70% power-assisted ride which is ideal for terrain that may require extra added effort.

eneloop Wii Controller Charger
As the only Nintendo-licensed charger for the Wii game in Japan, the SANYO eneloop charger offers game players the convenience of simple wireless charging. Up to four Wii remote controls can be placed in the inductive charging unit without having to take the batteries out of the controller or take the protective sleeve off the remote. The special eneloop battery pack can be fully recharged in 220 minutes.

‘eneloop soft warmer’
The SANYO ‘eneloop soft warmer’ lap warmer features a rechargeable battery allowing the small electric blanket to be warmed even when no AC power is available. Because the blanket is portable it can be used in a wide range of indoor or outdoor environments.

‘eneloop kairo’ (Hand Warmer)
The SANYO ‘eneloop kairo’ is a portable hand-warming device, about the same size as a deck of cards, which easily fits in a pocket, purse, or backpack. The hand warmer features an internal Lithium-ion rechargeable battery, allowing it to be recharged approximately 500 times. The unit delivers a comfortable level of heat ranging from 105.8 degrees F in the low setting to 109.4 degrees F in the high setting. The unit can be fully recharged in approximately 5 hours and will deliver 6 hours of warmth in the low setting and 5 hours in the high mode.
