Chatsworth, CA, August 4, 2010 – SANYO North America Corporation (SANYO), a leader in rechargeable battery technology, introduces a new electric hybrid bicycle, SANYO eneloop Synergetic Hybrid Bicycle (CY-SPH600NA) that provides an affordable and easy ride for consumers wanting to bicycle commute or just ride for exercise and fun. The SANYO eneloop bike will be available from leading retailers and distributors throughout the U.S. with an MSRP of $1699. The first released model, CY-SPA600NA eneloop bike, won a Best of Innovations Award at the prestigious 2010 International CES, receiving the highest overall score in the Eco-Design and Sustainable Technology category.

Since this is a hybrid bicycle, riders will still get their exercise time in. While they are pedaling they make and store up energy to be used when they need a little help up a hill or when they are tired on a long ride. The SANYO eneloop bike uses a “loop charge function’ which both generates electricity and charges the battery while in use. This function controls the level of necessary power or braking, depending on the incline of the road. Featuring a two-wheel drive system in which the rear wheel is driven by human pedaling power and the front tire is powered by motorized power, the electric hybrid bicycle is designed to offer the rider a safer, more stable ride. In addition, the bicycle’s ‘power up’ mode allows riders to pedal up steep hills effortlessly. This mode incorporates SANYO’s proprietary ‘smooth assistance control’ aid by balancing the bicycle when pedaling starts.
The SANYO eneloop bike is part of a larger series of products, known as the eneloop universe. Based on the eneloop battery, these products are designed to encourage consumers to develop lifestyles of reusing products. The SANYO consumer eneloop products available in North America includes rechargeable NiMH eneloop batteries and chargers, an eneloop battery pack made exclusively for the Wii Remote, and Pedal Juice, a 9V battery made for the music industry to charge effects pedals.
