Harnessing the Immense Power of the Sun
Opened in 2002, SANYO Solar Ark at the SANYO Gifu Plant is a large-scale 630kW photovoltaic power generating system that demonstrates SANYO's commitment to harmony with the global environment through clean energy. Solar Lab, a solar energy museum in the center of the structure, is open to the public. Furthermore, the "SANYO Ecology Fund Financial Foundation" allots funds equal to the electric power generated by the Solar Ark to support campaigns for environmental protection.

In 1975, SANYO launched the development of amorphous silicon solar cells. Today, the applications of solar cells span everything from electronic calculators and watches to large-scale systems for residential, industrial and communication systems. World Supplier of Rechargeable Batteries
SANYO is the world's largest manufacturer of rechargeable batteries. The company was also a founding member of the Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC). RBRC® now boasts a vast number of participants in their North American Charge Up to Recycle! ® Program for manufacturers, retailers, businesses and government agencies.

Developing New Transportation Alternatives
SANYO Energy (U.S.A.) Corporation has developed a battery pack for the Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) market and is also hard at work finding fuel cell power solutions that will enable more efficient transportation in the future. Other projects under development are electronic control systems and a regenerative charging subsystem.

Working to Protect the Environment
Contributing further to preserving the global environment are SANYO's production of non-fluorocarbon refrigerators provided by SANYO E & E Corporation, as well as non-CFC air-conditioning and non-CFC biomedical equipment provided by SANYO Sales and Supply Company.

Environmental Awards
Upholding the corporate slogan "We love the people and the earth", SANYO excels in producing environmentally friendly products. Among the many environmental awards SANYO has received in the past seven years are the Stratospheric Ozone Protection Awards from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Chairman's Awards from the Recycling Promotion Conference.

Emerging World Markets
SANYO is currently one of seven companies taking part in the "Silk Road GENESIS Project". This venture involves building photovoltaic solar power generation systems in the western part of China. SANYO is also involved in a global solar energy program known as the "GENESIS" Project which involves linking solar power generators with superconductor grids in deserts and plains.
